Sony may release updated DualSense Edge controller

Sony may be preparing a hardware revision of its DualSense Edge professional controller for PlayStation 5 and PC. According to filings with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a new model identified by the code CFI-ZCP2 is in development, following the current CFI-ZCP1 model.

The modification is expected to focus on the design of the internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery to make it more easily accessible and replaceable by users. This change likely aims to comply with upcoming European Union “right to repair” regulations, which require manufacturers to allow consumers to replace rechargeable batteries without returning the device to the manufacturer. These regulations are set to take full effect in 2027.

While some speculate the update could also include a higher-capacity battery to address the controller's current limited autonomy, official details remain limited. Some FCC documents, including updated product designs and user manuals, are currently locked and scheduled for public release in late January 2027.
