Sony outlines AI-driven tools for PlayStation game development
Sony's 2026 annual report details the company's plan to integrate artificial intelligence into its PlayStation game‑creation process. The firm aims to automate stages such as software development, quality‑control testing, 3D modelling and animation, using internal tools like the facial‑animation system Mockingbird. AI also supports other PlayStation services, including payment processing, personalized content recommendations and image‑upscaling technologies such as PSSR.
CEO Hiroki Totoki emphasized that the AI initiatives are meant to boost studio creativity, not replace artists, writers or developers, stating that "AI should not be considered a replacement for artists, writers or developers." No PlayStation titles created entirely by AI have been announced, making the announcements a strategic shift in development workflows rather than an immediate product change.
