Sony pays $50,000 bounty for critical PlayStation 5 security flaw

A security researcher known by the pseudonym 2tonejordy has received a $50,000 reward from Sony for discovering a critical vulnerability in the PlayStation 5 console. The payout, reported via the HackerOne platform, marks one of the highest rewards ever issued through the PlayStation Bug Bounty program, which has been active since June 2020.

The vulnerability was reportedly resolved on October 15. Following the announcement, the researcher joked on social media that the reward would be enough to “at least buy GTA 6.”

The PlayStation Bug Bounty program is designed to incentivize security researchers to report flaws responsibly to Sony Interactive Entertainment rather than selling them on the black market or using them for unauthorized activities, such as console jailbreaking.
