Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Andy Garcia's Film “Diamond”

Sony Pictures Classics has secured worldwide distribution rights to Andy Garcia’s noir‑crime drama “Diamond.” The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a nine‑minute standing ovation. Written, directed, co‑scored by Garcia with Arturo Sandoval, and starring Garcia as the titular private‑eye in Los Angeles, the movie also features Vicky Krieps, Brendan Fraser, Bill Murray, Dustin Hoffman and others. Sony did not announce a release date and the deal excludes France, Germany, Italy and CIS territories. The acquisition follows a production by Garcia’s CineSon company, with financing and executive production from Black Cap Pictures and Nexis Entertainment.

The film is described as a modern homage to classic Phillip Marlowe mysteries, blending colorful characters and rich period sensibilities. Garcia, who has spent two decades developing the project, said the story reflects a long‑standing personal passion that finally materialised after persistent effort.
