Sony Pictures leads bidding for Battlefield video game film adaptation
Sony Pictures has emerged as the frontrunner in a major bidding war to acquire the film rights for Electronic Arts’ “Battlefield” video game franchise. The competition reportedly included several major studios and streaming platforms, such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Universal, and Netflix.
Christopher McQuarrie, known for the “Mission: Impossible” series, is attached to write, direct, and produce the adaptation. Michael B. Jordan is also involved as a producer and may potentially take on a leading role, though his onscreen participation remains subject to the finalization of the deal.
The pursuit of the IP follows the massive commercial success of “Battlefield 6,” which became the bestselling first-person shooter of 2025. This cinematic push comes as competitors also move toward video game adaptations, with Paramount currently developing a “Call of Duty” film.
