Sony plans PlayStation Plus expansion while CEO affirms physical console relevance
Sony disclosed in its latest business report that it will continue expanding the PlayStation Plus subscription service. The company aims to attract more users to its higher‑tier plans—Essential, Extra and Premium—and sees the service as a key driver of growth for its gaming division, even as first‑party game sales decline.
PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino reiterated that physical consoles will remain a cornerstone of gaming. He highlighted the development of new experiences such as the PlayStation Portal, which lets players enjoy console‑grade gaming away from the TV, and affirmed Sony’s commitment to adapting console technology to varied lifestyles.
