Sony PlayStation 6 likely to launch 2027 with manufacturing cost near $960, price around $1,000

Industry leakers estimate the PlayStation 6’s bill of materials could reach about US$960 per console, roughly twice the cost of the PS5. Analysts note that component shortages and soaring memory prices driven by the AI boom have pushed hardware costs upward, prompting Sony to consider eliminating the disc drive and shifting to a primarily digital platform.

A report from insider Mille A claims Sony has already reserved Foxconn capacity, aiming for mass‑production in May 2027 and a public launch in the fall of 2027. Other analysts, however, project a later release in late 2028 or even 2029, citing the same supply‑chain constraints. With the high manufacturing cost, expected retail pricing is projected near US$1,000 unless Sony absorbs the loss as it did with earlier consoles.
