Sony PSP regains popularity via new PSPMAN music application
The Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) is experiencing a resurgence among retro gaming enthusiasts due to a new custom application called PSPMAN. Developed by Obsolete Sony, the software transforms the handheld console into a dedicated music player, fulfilling a vision once described by PlayStation engineer Ken Kutaragi as making the device the ‘Walkman of the 21st century’.
PSPMAN is designed to integrate seamlessly with the PSP’s original user interface and hardware controls. It supports local playback of MP3 and FLAC files from memory sticks, allowing for high-quality audio reproduction. The application can manage libraries of up to 1,000 tracks and includes aesthetic features such as an animated cassette tape mode that mimics a physical compact cassette during playback. The software is compatible with both original PSP models and the PSP Go.
