Sony PlayStation Studios 2026 Update: Disc Phase‑out, Studio Closures and New Game Line‑up

In the middle of 2026 Sony reviewed the status of its PlayStation Studios. The company confirmed that physical disc production will cease in January 2028, raising questions about future packaged releases. Several studios were closed, including Bluepoint Games – known for the Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes – and Dark Outlaw Games, a venture founded by former Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell.

Only one first‑party title has arrived so far, Housemarque’s shooter Saros. The report also highlights upcoming projects: Naughty Dog is developing a new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet; Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Laufey, focusing on the character Faye; and Insomniac Games will release Marvel’s Wolverine on 15 September 2026. Third‑party releases this year have included Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light and Crimson Desert.
