Sony PS5 Slim hardware revision revealed in teardown

A hardware teardown of a limited edition Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 Slim has revealed an unannounced internal revision of the console. The technician, known as Modyfikator89, identified a new motherboard labeled EDM-051 that features several significant hardware changes.

One major update is the inclusion of an accessible CR2032 CMOS battery. In previous Slim models, replacing this battery required a near-complete disassembly of the console, but the new design allows for easier replacement.

Additionally, the cooling system has been redesigned, utilizing a liquid-metal containment method similar to the PS5 Pro. This revised barrier around the APU is intended to better manage the thermal interface material, reducing the risk of leakage and improving heat transfer efficiency. Sony has not officially commented on these hardware refinements.
