Sony updates PS5 Slim with new EDM-051 motherboard

Sony has quietly introduced a hardware revision for the PlayStation 5 Slim, identified by technicians through a teardown of the Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition bundle. The new model features a redesigned EDM-051 motherboard that focuses on improving manufacturing efficiency, serviceability, and long-term reliability.

Key technical changes include a more accessible placement for the CR2032 CMOS battery, making repairs easier. The cooling system has also been updated with a redesigned barrier around the processor to better contain the liquid metal used for heat transfer, a design approach similar to the PS5 Pro. Additionally, the revision includes changes to the heatsink, internal component layout, and the use of a different HDMI retimer chip to potentially improve signal stability and reduce costs.

While these internal modifications aim to enhance the console's durability and ease of maintenance, they do not appear to change the system's overall performance. Sony has not made an official announcement regarding the rollout of this revised hardware.
