Sony releases PlayStation system updates for PS5 and PS4
Sony has released a major system software update for PlayStation consoles. For the PlayStation 5 Pro, the ‘Enhance PSSR Image Quality’ setting is now enabled by default. This utilizes PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to provide sharper and clearer visuals, even for games that previously only supported earlier versions of the algorithm.
The PlayStation 5 update (version 26.06-14.00.00) also introduces several user interface and social features. A new Community Activity widget has been added to the Welcome Hub, featuring ‘Trending Now’ for popular multiplayer modes and a ‘Top 10’ list of the most played games in a user’s specific region. Additionally, users can now enable a ‘Display Names’ feature in voice chats to see who is speaking, with the ability to customize the position of the speaker indicator on the screen.
In certain regions, the update modifies Bluetooth settings; when Bluetooth is turned off, the console will not enter rest mode and HDMI Device Link functionality will be disabled, a change intended to assist with eSports tournament management.
Simultaneously, Sony released version 14.00 for the PlayStation 4, which focuses primarily on improving system performance and stability rather than adding new features.
