Sony reportedly seeks to revive classic PlayStation IPs via external studios
Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly exploring a strategy to revive dormant PlayStation intellectual properties by partnering with external development studios. Rather than relying solely on internal teams, the company may finance and publish projects developed by third-party studios to bring back classic franchises.
Reports suggest that a new Ape Escape game could be in development, potentially handled by Evening Star, the independent team behind Sonic Mania. Other legacy titles mentioned in connection to this revival strategy include Killzone and Sly Cooper. This approach follows a similar blueprint used for the 2025 release of Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots, which was developed by Bandai Namco.
