Sony says it will not sell PlayStation consoles at a loss despite rising component costs

Sony Interactive Entertainment said it does not plan to sell future PlayStation hardware at significant losses, even as component and memory costs continue to rise. In an investor Q&A, CEO Hideaki Nishino noted that while the current generation of consoles is more expensive than at launch, sales of the PS5 remain on target and price increases have not caused a noticeable drop in demand. Sony is still evaluating the timing and pricing of the next‑generation PlayStation 6 and may pass higher component costs onto consumers rather than heavily subsidising the console. The company also said it will monitor the market closely, expand its ecosystem value, and continue monetising its user base while focusing on first‑party single‑player titles.
