Sony says PlayStation demand stays strong despite price hikes and pushes live‑service games

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino told reporters that recent increases in component costs for the PlayStation 5 have not caused a decline in consumer demand. Sales are proceeding as planned, and the company will continue to monitor the market while avoiding selling hardware at a significant loss.

The firm is also doubling down on the live‑service model, planning to combine first‑party and third‑party content. Sony announced an upcoming live‑service title, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, scheduled for release in 2026, and noted that recent workforce reductions at Bungie will affect 292 developers. In the same interview, Nishino hinted at the possibility of a portable PS6 console in the future.
