Sony State of Play features new titles amid physical media protests

Sony held its State of Play presentation, featuring updates for the PlayStation 5 and a special segment focused on Japanese developers. The broadcast included gameplay footage for titles such as Final Fantasy VII Revelation from Square Enix, alongside projects like God of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, and Horizon Hunters Gathering.

However, the event was also marked by significant viewer protests. On platforms like YouTube and Twitch, users flooded the chats with the slogan ‘No Disc, No Buy’ to protest Sony’s decision to end physical disc production for new games starting in January 2028. Additionally, many fans used the stream to demand the announcement of Destiny 3, following a long-standing petition signed by over 300,000 people.

While Sony’s CFO Lin Tao has acknowledged strong community opinions, the company has not indicated it will reconsider its transition to digital-only releases for new titles after the 2028 deadline.
