Ramayana film trailer delayed as Sony Pictures partnership announced
The much‑anticipated trailer for the two‑part Indian epic "Ramayana" was scheduled for a global debut at San Diego Comic‑Con on July 24, 2026. Hours before the launch, producer Namit Malhotra announced a postponement, explaining that the film has entered a worldwide distribution partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. He wrote on Instagram, “Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above we will be launching our trailer globally at a later date.”
The delay follows a high‑profile promotional appearance by stars Ranbir Kapoor (Lord Rama), Yash (Ravana), Sai Pallavi (Sita) and Sunny Deol (Hanuman) at Comic‑Con, where they highlighted the project's ambition to bring the mythological story to an international audience. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and backed by a reported $500 million (≈ ₹4,000 crore) budget, is slated to release Part 1 in India on Diwali, 8 November 2026, with Part 2 to follow in 2027.
While some social‑media speculation linked the postponement to student protests in India, no official source confirmed this. The primary reason cited remains the strategic decision to launch the trailer on a larger global platform under Sony’s distribution umbrella.
