Sony to end new PlayStation physical game releases by 2028
Sony has announced that starting in 2028, PlayStation will no longer release new games in physical format, opting instead for a digital-only approach. While physical copies of existing titles will remain available, production is expected to decrease by approximately 10%.
Evidence of this transition is already appearing in recent releases. Following Marvel’s Wolverine, the upcoming God of War Laufey is the second major PlayStation title to lack a physical collector’s edition, offering only digital luxury options. This shift has caused frustration among fans who value physical merchandise and collectible items typically included in premium editions.
Despite the move toward digital, collector's editions for various titles remain available for those looking to build collections now. Current affordable options under 100 euros include titles such as Elementallis, American Arcadia, and The Axis Unseen, which offer physical goods like artbooks, soundtracks, and themed packaging.
