Sony to introduce PSSR 2.0 AI upscaling exclusively for PS5 Pro
Sony is preparing to deploy system software update 14.0 for the PlayStation 5, which is currently in beta testing. The update features a significant upgrade to PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), an AI-based upscaling technology designed to reconstruct low-resolution images for sharper visuals without excessive hardware strain.
PSSR 2.0 promises improved detail and a reduction in visual artifacts, such as geometric flickering on object edges. However, this specific feature will be exclusive to the PS5 Pro. Due to hardware requirements, the enhanced version of PSSR cannot be implemented on standard PS5 models.
On the PS5 Pro, the technology will activate automatically in compatible games. While Sony has noted general improvements to stability and performance within the update, a definitive release date has not yet been announced.
