Sony to release 28 Days Later on 4K UHD in 2026

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release for the 2002 film ‘28 Days Later’, scheduled for September 1, 2026. The restoration is notable because the original film was shot using Canon XL1 digital video cameras recording to MiniDV, resulting in a distinctively low-resolution and harsh digital aesthetic.

To preserve the film's unique visual character while improving quality, the 4K master was created using the original source video combined with portions of the camera negative used for the theatrical release. The new edition will feature Dolby Vision HDR and a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack, both of which have been approved by director Danny Boyle. The release will be available as a limited-edition SteelBook and through digital retailers.
