Sony to skip CES 2027, ending 60-year attendance streak
Sony Group Corporation has announced it will not participate in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2027, marking the first time the company and its affiliates will be absent from the event since its inception in 1967.
According to a spokesperson, the decision reflects a strategic shift in the company’s communication and event priorities. Sony is increasingly focusing its resources on entertainment, intellectual property, and technologies that support creators, including gaming, music, movies, and anime. This pivot follows a trend of reduced presence in consumer electronics, such as the recent transition of the Bravia television brand to a joint venture with TCL and the cancellation of the Afeela electric vehicle project with Honda.
While the absence from CES 2027 means there will be no official platform for hardware reveals like the PlayStation 6 at the Las Vegas event, Sony indicated it will continue its relationship with the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). The company remains committed to its core business segments, including gaming, through alternative presentation formats such as State of Play.
