Sony's PlayStation 6 cost pressures keep 2027 launch on track
Leaked estimates suggest the next‑generation PlayStation 6 could cost around $900 to $1,000 to manufacture, up from an earlier $760 bill of materials. The rise is attributed to climbing component prices, with analysts warning that delaying the console would not necessarily lower those costs.
Sony has reiterated that its hardware roadmap remains aimed at a 2027 launch, arguing that postponing the release would risk the console appearing technologically stale and would not substantially improve the economics. The company is also said to be unwilling to sell the device at significant losses, positioning the PS6 as potentially the most expensive PlayStation ever sold.
