The possibility of a delay was highlighted in Embracer Group’s annual report, which noted that rising memory component costs were complicating the console’s launch window.

Contrasting this view, well‑known insider KeplerL2 argued on the NeoGAF forum that a 2027 release remains realistic. Citing Sony’s existing contracts with TSMC for APU chips and agreements for GDDR7 memory, the insider warned that postponing a near‑finished console would be economically unwise. He stated, “Delay doesn’t make sense,” and warned that component prices may stay high through 2030, potentially pushing the launch price toward $900 instead of the usual $600.

Analysts note that PlayStation 5 will continue to receive support for several more years, meaning consumers could still opt to purchase the current generation and wait for the next.
