Sooke health summit reviews decade of wellness and sets future priorities
The Sooke Region Communities Health Network hosted a health summit on September 26 to review a decade of wellness initiatives and establish future priorities for the region.
Attendees, including health professionals and community members, participated in discussions centered on four key pillars: medical services and infrastructure, healthy food accessibility, social and physical activities, and special populations. The event aimed to provide guidance for the incoming municipal council and local organizations regarding resident needs.
Key topics included the progress toward an Urgent and Primary Care Centre and the ongoing requirement for expanded mental health services. Dr. Melissa Wan, Island Health’s medical health officer for the Western Communities, presented regional population and health data to contextualize the community's current needs.
