Sookmyung Women's University expands digital entrepreneurship training for ASEAN women and joins US‑Korea science forum

Sookmyung Women's University, through its Asia‑Pacific Women’s ICT Center, ran a month‑long "Women in Digital & Entrepreneurship (WiDE)" program for 110 female students from Laos (Suphanbong University), Cambodia (Royal University of Phnom Penh) and Vietnam (Quynh University). The blended learning model combined three weeks of online instruction in Python, data visualization and startup basics with one week of on‑site training tailored to each country's key sectors—agriculture in Laos, tourism in Cambodia, and digital/AI in Vietnam. The program is part of UNESCO’s UNITWIN initiative funded by the Korean Ministry of Education’s ODA, and includes follow‑up activities such as company field trips, startup CEO meetings and employment counseling.

In August, the university will send a delegation of its president, faculty and graduate students to the 2026 Korea‑U.S. Scientists Conference (UKC 2026) in Orlando, Florida. The event, organized by the Korean‑American Scientists and Engineers Association, aims to showcase Sookmyung’s research capabilities, foster international collaborations and discuss AI’s impact on higher education. The university will also host a forum on its 120‑year history and future research vision, and participate in a women‑in‑STEM panel with Korean and U.S. leaders.
