Soor Sarovar Bird Sanctuary expanded to 798 hectares in Agra

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has acknowledged the completion of the expansion of the Soor Sarovar Bird Sanctuary in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The sanctuary now covers a total area of 798.1505 hectares.

The expansion follows recommendations from the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) and a 2022 Supreme Court order. To achieve this, the Uttar Pradesh government issued several notifications under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. This included the notification of 403.09 hectares and the subsequent inclusion of 380.558 hectares from the Surdas Reserve Forest block and surrounding government buffer zone land.
