Sophie Adenot returns to Earth after record-breaking ISS mission
The Crew-12 mission successfully returned to Earth on October 8, 2026, after spending 237 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule, named Freedom, splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Los Angeles, California.
The four-person crew included NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev. During the mission, the crew conducted numerous scientific experiments involving stem cells, crystal growth, and human physiological responses to microgravity. Sophie Adenot set a new record for the longest continuous spaceflight by a European astronaut.
Following the splashdown, the crew underwent medical evaluations before being transported to Houston, Texas, and Cologne, Germany, for recovery and rehabilitation. The mission was originally intended to replace a previous crew following a medical evacuation, a first for NASA in 65 years of human spaceflight.
