Sophie Binet accuses French employers of normalizing the far-right

Sophie Binet, the Secretary General of the CGT, has accused a portion of the French business community of facilitating the normalization of the far-right Rassemblement National (RN). Speaking in an interview with Le Monde, Binet expressed concern that employers are prioritizing financial interests over the potential social and institutional risks posed by the party.

Binet criticized the recent presidential debate organized during the Medef summer universities, noting that candidates focused their critiques on Jean-Luc Mélenchon while leaving Marine Le Pen relatively unchallenged. She argued that the RN's platform should be evaluated not just on its economic policies, but on its stances regarding the Constitution, immigration, women's rights, LGBT rights, judicial independence, and climate change.

Describing the current political atmosphere as reminiscent of France in 1938, Binet warned that the possibility of the far-right gaining power through the ballot box is a “terrifying” prospect that requires urgent attention from both political and employer organizations.
