Sophie Bowles, 23, critically injured in Wales road collision
On 13 July, 23‑year‑old Sophie Bowles, a highway‑maintenance HGV driver from Powys, was working on the B4521 near Skenfrith when a car struck her. She was run over, crushed into a chipper and dragged five metres, sustaining a shattered pelvis broken in nine places, fractured hip joints, a broken femur and nerve damage.
Bowles has undergone three major operations and faces years of rehabilitation. Her father, Matthew Bowles, set up a GoFundMe campaign seeking £13,000 to convert the family garage into an accessible wet‑room and living space to support her independence. Gwent Police attended the scene, and the incident has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive for review. No arrests have been made.
