Sophon to shut down mainnet on November 30
Sophon has announced a final timetable for the shutdown of its mainnet, scheduled for November 30, 2026. The project has established November 25, 2026, as the critical deadline for users to withdraw all assets to avoid the risk of permanent loss.
Users are instructed to withdraw SOPH, ETH, USDC, and any assets held in Sophon Farms, as well as to claim outstanding staking and Guardian rewards via the official claims portal. The five-day window between the withdrawal deadline and the shutdown is necessary because network infrastructure and related websites may begin to go offline after the 25th.
The decision to close the standalone Layer 2 network follows a strategic pivot announced in June. Sophon developers cited annual operational costs of approximately $3.4 million as a primary reason for the shift. The project, which previously focused on entertainment using zkSync’s ZK Stack, will now concentrate on consumer finance and artificial intelligence applications on Coinbase’s Base network.
Regarding the SOPH token, the project is transitioning to a model where the token is tied to revenue from new Base-based products, including a gamified neofinance app called Pyre. A portion of this revenue is intended to fund token buybacks and burns.
