Soproni Téma newspaper ceases publication after 14 years

The free weekly newspaper Soproni Téma, launched in 2012 as a successor to the local supplement Helyi Téma, stopped printing and online operations after 14 years. The paper, edited by Ferenc Horváth and printed by Mediaworks Hungary Zrt, distributed 27,170 copies each week to households in Sopron and surrounding areas.

Its owners cited financial reasons for the closure, ending a publication that had been described both as a community chronicle and as a mouthpiece for the Fidesz‑led city council. The final issue was released in early May. The shutdown follows a similar fate earlier this year of the Győr‑area media group Győr Plusz Média Zrt., also linked to the local Fidesz administration.
