Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Institute opens in Los Angeles

The Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Institute for Mexican Language, Literature, and Culture has officially opened in Los Angeles, California. Established through a collaboration between the University of Guadalajara Foundation USA and the University of Guadalajara’s Center for Social Sciences and Humanities (CUCSH), the institute aims to provide cultural activities and reading programs for children and youth of Mexican origin.

Located at 1111 Broadway, the institute seeks to foster a sense of belonging and preserve the Spanish language among younger generations. Director Sara Poot Herrera noted that the space will embrace various linguistic expressions, including Spanish, Chicano, and Spanglish. The program will feature workshops, courses, and visits from prominent authors to strengthen cultural ties between Mexico and the United States.
