Soracom expands IoT services with SIM transfer updates and RTK positioning

Soracom has introduced new updates and services to its IoT platform. Following an August 2026 update, users can now complete the transfer of SORACOM Air for Cellular IoT SIMs directly through the SORACOM User Console without transfer fees.

Technical testing indicates that while the transfer process is seamless in terms of administration, an active session will experience a temporary disconnection during the finalization of the transfer. For instance, tests showed a communication gap of approximately five seconds. To mitigate impact, users are advised to prepare equivalent SIM group settings at the destination account to ensure that devices can automatically reconnect and resume communication using the new settings.

Additionally, Soracom has launched a standalone RTK (Real Time Kinematic) correction information service via the SORACOM IoT Store. Provided by Quectel Wireless Solutions, the service costs 2,970 yen per month per account. This service enables high-precision GNSS positioning with centimeter-level accuracy, making it suitable for autonomous agricultural machinery, construction equipment management, and robotics. The standalone offering allows users who already own RTK-compatible GNSS receivers to access the correction data independently.
