Sorana Cîrstea and Gabriela Ruse represent Romania at Toronto WTA 1000

Romanian tennis players Sorana Cîrstea (ranked No. 17) and Gabriela Ruse (ranked No. 75) will compete in the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto, Canada, scheduled for 2–13 August. They are the only two Romanians on the main draw after Jaqueline Cristian withdrew because of a knee injury. Cîrstea received a first‑round bye and will face the winner of a qualifying match between Yuliia Starodubtseva and another qualifier, with possible later opponents such as Barbora Krejčíková, Elena Rybakina or Mirra Andreeva. Ruse opens the competition in the first round against American Peyton Stearns (ranked No. 58) and could meet players like Anastasia Potapova, Elina Svitolina, Amanda Anisimova or Aryna Sabalenka if she advances. The event follows the Canadian Open’s alternating Toronto‑Montreal schedule and marks Cîrstea’s ninth appearance in a main draw and third in Toronto.
