Sorana Cîrstea nears career-high ranking and WTA Finals qualification

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea is approaching a career-high WTA ranking following her performance at the US Open. Currently ranked 15th, the 36-year-old could potentially reach the Top 15, depending on the results of Emma Navarro.

Cîrstea is also in contention for a spot at the WTA Finals in Indian Wells, scheduled for November 8–15. Following her US Open run, she sits at 11th in the race for the tournament, which features the season's top eight players. Her coach, Artemon Apostu-Efremov, described a potential qualification as a “sensational achievement,” noting that Cîrstea must navigate upcoming WTA 1000 tournaments in Beijing and Wuhan to secure her position.

Cîrstea has indicated that she will officially announce her retirement from professional tennis at the end of this season.
