Sorana Cîrstea pursues WTA Top 10 ranking amid career resurgence

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cîrstea is experiencing a significant resurgence in her career at age 36. Currently ranked 11th in the WTA Race, she is positioned to potentially break into the Top 10, a feat achieved by only three other Romanian players: Virginia Ruzici, Irina Spîrlea, and Simona Halep.

To reach the Top 10, Cîrstea needs to close a gap of approximately 1,000 points with Iga Swiatek. Her upcoming schedule includes a WTA 500 tournament in Singapore and the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing, providing critical opportunities to accumulate points.

Cîrstea also reflected on her competitive relationship with Russian player Mirra Andreeva. Following a quarterfinal loss to Andreeva at Roland Garros, where the 19-year-old went on to win her first Grand Slam title, Cîrstea expressed her support for the younger player, describing herself as Andreeva’s “number 1 fan.”
