Soraya Santos advocates for disability rights and legal access in Brazil

Federal Deputy Soraya Santos has raised concerns regarding the use of medical reports for students with disabilities in Brazil, arguing that such practices often treat students as if they were ill. Speaking within the context of the Chamber of Deputies' Education Commission, Santos discussed Bill 657/25, which seeks to allow students to access specialized pedagogical assistance without requiring a formal medical diagnosis. The bill aims to prioritize multiprofessional evaluations to prevent unnecessary medication and foster better developmental outcomes.

In a separate address to the Chamber celebrating Lawyer's Day, Santos also highlighted the legal profession's role in addressing social inequalities. She emphasized the importance of legal assistance for vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities, victims of violence, and the elderly. She commended the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) for initiatives aimed at expanding legal aid and noted legislative progress regarding protections for female lawyers.
