Søren Waerenskjold claims record‑fast Tour de France stage
Norwegian rider Søren Waerenskjold (Uno‑X Mobility) won the 11th stage of the 2026 Tour de France, a 161.3‑km flat run from Vichy to Nevers, at an average speed of 50.91 km/h – the fastest road stage in the race’s 113‑year history, surpassing the 1999 record of 50.36 km/h.
Waerenskjold’s long‑range sprint left the favourites Olav Kooij (second) and Jasper Philipsen (third) unable to catch him. The win gave the Norwegian his first Tour stage victory and marked the second stage win for the Uno‑X team this edition. In the general classification, Tadej Pogačar retained the yellow jersey, keeping a 3 minutes 36 seconds lead over Jonas Vingegaard, with Remco Evenepoel in third. No other changes occurred in the standings.
The stage also featured a four‑man early break, a chaotic finish with no organized lead‑out trains, and a brief relegation of Philipsen that was later overturned. Waerenskjold’s success fulfills a major goal for his team and adds a new milestone to Tour history.
