Sorgenia biomass plant fire leads to activity suspension in Finale Emilia

The Mayor of Finale Emilia has issued an ordinance to immediately suspend biomass collection activities at the Sorgenia Finale Emilia thermoelectric plant following a fire on September 16. The fire, which affected plant material in the yard, is believed to have been caused by spontaneous combustion of corn and sorghum bales due to high temperatures and moisture levels.

Under the emergency ordinance, the company must secure the affected area in coordination with the Fire Department, Arpae, and Ausl. The facility is prohibited from accepting any new biomass or sorghum until further notice. Once the emergency situation is resolved, the company is instructed to prioritize processing the remaining sorghum biomass currently stored on-site to prevent further fire risks.
