Soria City Council maintains privatized feline colony program

The Soria City Council has decided to maintain the privatization of the Capture, Sterilization, and Return (CER) program for feline colonies. Following technical and legal reviews, the council rejected requests to suspend the contract currently held by the company Comertu Control de Aves S. L.

To address concerns raised by local animal welfare associations, the municipality will implement stricter supervision and monitoring of the service. Plans include improvements to feeding points, shelters, and hoppers to ensure better care for the community cats.

The management of these colonies is a mandatory municipal responsibility under Law 7/2023 for the Protection of Animal Rights and Welfare. The current contract was awarded in July 2026 for an annual amount of 11,800 euros plus VAT. The council aims to maintain an open dialogue with associations and the contracted company to ensure the program's correct execution.
