Sorin Grindeanu seeks to form new minority government in Romania

Romania is facing a period of intense political and economic instability. PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu has signaled his intention to form a minority government, claiming the party is close to securing a parliamentary majority. Grindeanu has proposed a new government with full powers by September 1 and has pledged to implement administrative reforms, including the merging of small localities, if he becomes Prime Minister.

Opposition and government officials have reacted sharply. PNL members have accused Grindeanu of spreading illusions to his party members and misleading the public about the PSD's role in the current administration. Meanwhile, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan's government faces heavy criticism from PSD leaders regarding economic decline, rising debt, and inflation.

On the legislative front, the government is rushing to pass a new salary law to meet PNRR requirements by August 31. Interim Labor Minister Dragoș Pîslaru stated that a draft will be sent to the presidency this weekend for political negotiation, though no final agreement has been reached with education or health unions.
