Sorina Docuz fur garment controversy sparks debate in Romania

A fur garment worn by Sorina Docuz, the partner of Romanian politician Marcel Ciolacu, has triggered a national debate regarding its origin and value. The item, worn at a social event, has led to public scrutiny over whether the piece is authentic chinchilla or a more affordable alternative.

Retailers suggest the garment may be made of Rex rabbit fur, which can mimic the appearance and texture of chinchilla. While authentic chinchilla fur can cost between 5,000 and tens of thousands of euros, Rex rabbit fur is estimated to cost around 1,500 lei.

The controversy has also prompted commentary from fashion critic Adina Buzatu, who addressed the social implications of women's wealth being questioned when associated with influential political figures. The incident has resulted in increased consumer interest in similar styles within retail stores.
