Sorocaba launches free train rides for 372nd anniversary celebrations

In August, the Brazilian city of Sorocaba in São Paulo state marks its 372nd anniversary with a series of free heritage train trips. The first ride, part of the Jornada do Patrimônio do Estado de São Paulo, departs on Saturday, 8 August at 10:30 a.m. from Estação Paula Souza to the former Estação Vila Assis, using the restored 1948 Locomotiva 3002. Tickets are available through the Movimento de Preservação Ferroviária (MPF Sorocabana) website, limited to three per CPF, with a reserved quota for residents registered in the federal CadÚnico system.

A special “Trem dos Operários” service will also run on 15 August, the city’s official birthday, with departures at 10:30, 14:00 and 16:00. Tickets for these trips can be purchased on the same site, and children up to six years old travel free when accompanied by a paying adult. The program aims to highlight Sorocaba’s historic role as a major railway hub in the interior of São Paulo.
