Sorocaba and Videira respond to heavy rainfall and flooding

Heavy rainfall has triggered emergency responses in several Brazilian municipalities. In Sorocaba, intense storms recorded 71mm in 24 hours and 127mm over three days, causing the Sorocaba River to rise significantly above normal levels.

To mitigate flood risks, Saae/Sorocaba requested that CBA reduce the outflow from the Itupararanga Reservoir from 11 to 6 cubic meters per second. Local authorities have closed several major roads, including Avenida Dom Aguirre and Avenida XV de Agosto, due to flooding and fallen trees. While no displacements or major floods have been reported, municipal teams remain mobilized for cleaning and debris removal.

In Videira, the Civil Defense reported various incidents including landslides, fallen trees, and downed utility poles. Flooding has also impacted local access in several neighborhoods, necessitating ongoing monitoring by emergency services.
