Manaus security: Massive drug seizure and military prison rebellion
In Manaus, Amazonas, a major drug seizure and a prison rebellion have occurred. Authorities seized 2.4 tons of skunk marijuana in the Tarumã-Açu neighborhood, an operation estimated to have caused over R$ 48 million in losses to organized crime. Governor Roberto Cidade noted that since January, security forces in the state have seized approximately 37 to 49 tons of drugs.
Simultaneously, a rebellion broke out at the new Amazonas Military Police Prison Unit (UPPM/AM) located near the Compaj complex. Preliminary reports indicate that several military officers, including a major, an aspirant, and two soldiers, were held hostage. The Special Police Operations Battalion (Bope) and negotiators were deployed to the scene to manage the situation.
In a separate incident in Sorocaba, municipal guards apprehended a 16-year-old following a failed escape attempt in Jardim Zulmira. Officers recovered 235 portions of narcotics, including crack, marijuana, and cocaine, along with cash.
