Sorocaba police report 36% rise in drug seizures, 45,000 portions seized

The Municipal Guard of Sorocaba (GCM) recorded a 36% increase in drug seizures in the first half of 2026, confiscating about 45,000 portions of narcotics—including roughly 21,000 cocaine, 12,000 marijuana and 10,500 crack—compared with 33,000 portions seized in 2025. The operations also led to more than 300 arrests and the impoundment of 65 vehicles.

Authorities credit the surge to recent investments in technology and personnel: the revival of the Municipal Patrol (Romu), expansion of the Central Integrated Operations Center (CCOI) with over 1,500 surveillance cameras, and the active deployment of a canine unit (Canil) with four trained dogs. Mayor Rodrigo Manga highlighted the continuous municipal funding for equipment, training, and staff recruitment as key to the enhanced preventive and special‑operations capability of the GCM.
