Brazil observes Independence Day with service adjustments and security operations
Brazil is observing the Independence Day holiday, leading to widespread adjustments in public services, banking, and transportation across various regions.
Banking institutions will have no in-person service on September 7. According to Febraban, while physical branches are closed, digital channels and Pix remain fully operational. Financial compensations like TED will not occur on the holiday, and consumers are advised to pay taxes and bills in advance to avoid interest.
Public services are operating on special schedules. In cities like Araçatuba and Campinas, essential services such as SAMU, emergency health units, and security forces remain active, while administrative offices are closed. Shopping malls and commercial centers in Salvador and other regions have also announced modified operating hours.
Security and traffic operations are being intensified. In Minas Gerais, the 'Operação Independência' involves approximately one thousand police officers monitoring highways to prevent accidents and crime. In other municipalities like Codó and Timbiras, increased patrols have been deployed to ensure public safety during festivities. Additionally, various cities are hosting traditional civic-military parades to celebrate the national holiday.
