Brazilian cities launch elderly protection and women support programs

During the "Junho Violeta" (June Violet) campaign, the Federal District's Public Security Secretariat and Sesc-DF hosted a cultural and informational event for about 380 seniors at the Teatro Paulo Gracindo, featuring a talk on fraud prevention and a musical performance by the Federal District Fire Brigade. Secretary Alexandre Patury said, "Investir em ações voltadas às pessoas idosas significa proteger um público que merece atenção especial diante do aumento dos golpes e de diferentes formas de violência."

In Sorocaba, the Municipal Secretariat of Women opened registrations for two July initiatives: the Mercado Solidário, a food‑distribution and assistance fair for vulnerable families scheduled for July 3, and the Projeto Pérolas, a grief‑support group for mothers who have experienced perinatal loss, set for July 8.

Separately, the State Secretariat of Citizenship, in partnership with the University of Mato Grosso do Sul, launched the online workshop series "Envelhecer é Legal" (Aging Is Legal). Running from early July to late August, the 50‑hour program aims to train public managers and social‑health professionals on the Elderly Statute, ageism, violence prevention, and social control mechanisms.
