Sorong Open 2026 badminton tournament begins in Papua

The Sorong Open 2026 Piala Hartono badminton championship has officially commenced at the GOR Gala Raya in Sorong. Sponsored by DPD RI member Hj. Hartono, the tournament serves as a competitive platform and developmental arena for badminton athletes across the Papua region.

Participants represent various clubs and districts, including Jayapura, Merauke, Biak, Manokwari, Fakfak, Sorong Selatan, Raja Ampat, and Sorong. The event, which runs until August 29, 2026, aims to foster athletic achievement and strengthen connections between athletes, coaches, government officials, and the local community. Organizers emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and mental strength to maintain the tournament's integrity and future support.
