Sorrento avoids dissolution under government monitoring
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi has addressed the administrative situation in Sorrento, clarifying that while the municipality will not be dissolved, the investigations into its administration are not closed.
Following an inspection that highlighted issues potentially justifying dissolution—including corruption investigations involving former mayor Massimo Coppola, building abuses, and alleged intimidation—the government decided to allow Sorrento to proceed to elections. This decision follows a previous period of ordinary commissionership.
Piantedosi emphasized that the decision includes specific prescriptions and ongoing monitoring to ensure administrative improvements. "We have not archived everything," the Minister stated, noting that the government will analyze whether the municipality adheres to the required measures to prevent the recurrence of previous criticalities.
